The European Commission will sign grant agreements with 25 projects that successfully applied to the Horizon Europe Widening Participation programme - Teaming for Excellence 2022 (12 projects) and the first Excellence Hubs actions (10 projects + 3 from the reserve list).
Teaming actions will create new or modernise existing centres of excellence in Widening countries through strategic partnerships with leading institutions abroad. The impact will be amplified by the conditionality of securing complementary investment from structural funds or other sources.
Excellence Hubs will strengthen regional innovation excellence, through innovation ecosystems in Widening countries and beyond, by teaming up, and creating robust linkages between academia, businesses, governments and civil society.

Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area
Under Horizon Europe, the European Commission funds projects to strengthen research and innovation across Europe and beyond.
The 'Widening participation and spreading excellence' sub-programme contributes to building research and innovation capacity for countries lagging behind on R&I performance, in line with the policy objectives of the European Research Area.
The Work Programme 2023-2024 includes new Calls for Proposals for:
Teaming for Excellence: opened on 10 January 2022 with deadline to apply on 12 April 2023.
Excellence Hubs: opens on 28 September 2023 with deadline to apply on 7March 2024.
